Overview
Minarva — a brand built on a loving human-machine relationship.
There is a lot of conversation happening around Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and using algorithms to shape the future of design and the role of the designer. But how is that going to affect our careers as graphic and digital designers in the long term? Will AI replace designers?
Minarva is a brand that aims to create a loving human-machine relationship. Far from threatening the design occupation, AI will become a design partner and tool that designers can use to meet ever-evolving workplace demands — designers should set up a growth mindset to adapt to the evolving role. Minarva engages technology in a meaningful way by enhancing the ability of designers. Various deliverables were developed, including a promotional campaign, website, design app, publication, and design conference.
Context
What the numbers say: jobs lost, jobs created.
According to a report by Oxford University and Deloitte, 800,000 jobs were lost in the UK due to automation between 2001–2015 — but according to the same report, 3.5 million new jobs were created. NPR’s “Will your job be done by a machine?” predicts an 8 percent chance of a graphic designer’s job being automated in 20 years’ time.
Campaign
A design conference about AI.
One of Minarva’s deliverables is a design conference — a full event identity spanning posters, schedules and tickets.
Publication
The thesis, as a book.
App & Web
The design app, and the brand site.
Film
Two brand films.
