Overview
Redesigning the gateway to the parks for people who love the outdoors.
The National Park Service (NPS) is a bureau within the Department of the Interior whose function is to manage US national parks. As a group, we were drawn to this website because of the allure of the outdoors, nature, and hiking. Nps.gov needs a facelift that reflects the beauty and fun of the National Parks, while still effectively delivering the information the user needs.
The product helps the Department of the Interior accomplish conservation and management of the nation’s natural resources and cultural heritage, and provides scientific information about natural hazards. An interactive website creates a dialogue between humans and nature that makes hikers and campers feel more connected — so that educating the public and conserving these resources can continue for generations to come.

From user testing, we found that users liked using a map to learn more about park locations — filtering parks by selecting the state they want to narrow their search by.
